Visual App Editor

I started as an intern in August 2022 at a company that makes a low-code app platform, and stayed on part-time until September 2023.

Problem

Apps on the platform are written in YAML in a browser editor. They wanted a way to set up an app without touching the YAML.

What I built

A visual editor next to the text editor, with tabs for general settings, pages, resources, theme and security. You fill in forms and it writes the changes into the app’s YAML. It has undo and redo and a live preview of the app, and the resources tab can fill in example data from a resource’s schema.

Security tab

This one took the longest. Roles show up as a tree, roles can inherit from each other and it won’t let you create a loop, and renaming a role renames it everywhere it’s used.

Other work

Pagination for the resources and assets pages, translations, end-to-end tests and bug fixes.
